retro shades.

mom was rocking some pretty rad shades this weekend.

i asked her where she got them and she said... granny!

granny gave them to her a couple weeks ago because she never wore them... she said she got them over 20 years ago!

you know that really set my vintage alarm off!

after MUCH persuasion, i managed a trade that allowed the rad granny shades to come home with me.

the milkhouse.

we have this amazing antique store down the street from our house called "the milkhouse".
it's one of those places where they have a zillion different vendor booths so there is something for everyone!  everything there is priced really fairly and they will always haggle with you.  i love a good haggle!  we love to stop in and look around on the weekends whenever we get a chance.

this past weekend we found some amazing things there, including finn's fun vintage toys that he loves so much, and beautiful 40's era framed farm art for 50% off!  billy also got inspired by a retro drafting desk we saw there and it reminded him there was something similar in his parents barn... bingo!  free office furniture!  love when that happens.

i never have trouble finding things at milkhouse.
actually, i pretty much never have trouble finding things anywhere i shop. hehe.

i have my eye on this amazing 60's quilt there that would be perfect for outside picnics and as a playmat for finn.  we didn't get it this last time, but i did make out with these two amazing little finds:

a beautiful vintage charm bracelet:

i LOVE this.  

the charms include a little engagement ring, an i love you charm, a baby bassinet, a mini diary, a little bell and others!  it fits me so perfectly... and even the charms are appropriate! 

i love feeling like i'm wearing something with a history to it that once must have been very dear to someone.

the little bell also makes this amazing little jingle when i walk and billy says it sounds like i'm calling fairies.  :)
oh and it was $15. love that more!

i couldn't find a brand on them, but they're real leather and made in brazil.

and they were $17! i'll take it!  i think they look late 70's.

the milkhouse is so fun and inspiring that i think i'll try and post some of our finds there more often!  they have the most unique things.  

speaking of wonderful finds, wednesdays are farmers market days around here, and finn and i are super excited to pick up this week's produce today!  last week we got a mint plant and fresh strawberries that i used in these delish mojitos:

wow, antique stores and farmers markets, i guess i'm really keepin' things country around here.  oh wait, the field mice in my kitchen do that for me already.  :)

what i wore.

blogging seems to be very trendy these days.
among these trendy bloggers are a whole slew of super cute stay at home moms.
their blogs are really artsy looking, they all have cool hair, and half of them write these blogs called "what i wore".

these "what i wore" blogs are very interesting to me.
what a "what i wore" blog consists of are lots of pictures of the cute stay at home mom poised in front of a fence, or a brick wall, or another super-poised backdrop, wearing a combination of trendy/vintage/bohemian clothing that they a) of course got a great deal on and b) look way cuter in it than 95% of the population ever would.  they also always list every brand and item they're wearing and it's always brands that are impossible to find or they're vintage or found by pure luck or one million dollars.

these blogs get me thinking lots of things.  normally my thought process goes something like this:
"wow, that outfit is super different and cute..."
"hmm, the one earring look... interesting... i don't think i could pull that off.  i don't even know if she can pull it off."
"why am i looking at this?"
"where is this girls baby?"
"what was this girl wearing before she randomly got dressed up on a monday afternoon and found a decorative fence to pose in front of?"
"why is this girl randomly getting dressed up on a monday afternoon and finding a decorative fence to pose in front of?"

it becomes somewhat baffling.
so i've thought about it, and i decided two things.
one thing is, i know it's important to still look cute once you have a baby and for people (and your husband) not to think you "let yourself go".  i get that.
but the second thing is, i think these blogs probably are more irritating than inspiring.
they're just so unrealistic!  i mean, clearly these girls don't walk around in these get-ups all day long.  i'm all for getting done up for dinner or whathaveyou, but looking like an urban outfitters catalogue model 24-7 when you have a six week old? it's not happening! these girls are false advertising.

so, i decided to post my own "what i wore" blog.
and whenever i find myself wearing something similarly realistic and simultaneously hilarious, i will post another.
not because i've let myself go (ehhh may have given myself a little lee-way...) but because it's real life.
